Replacing the siding on your home is a big project, and one of the first questions we hear from homeowners is: “How long will my siding replacement take?” Homeowners want to plan around the work, know when their house will be back to normal, and understand what each step involves before they sign anything.
At Tevelde and Co., we've walked hundreds of families through this process across the state, from Omaha to Elkhorn, and Springfield to Papillion. This helpful guide lays out the full siding replacement timeline so you know exactly what to expect from the first phone call to the final walkthrough.
The actual installation work usually runs 3 to 7 days, depending on the size of your home, the siding material you choose, and what the Nebraska weather decides to do that week. But, if you start the clock at your first phone call, the process can be 2-4 weeks depending on urgency and design choices. This additional time factors in the initial inspection, design consultations, ordering materials, and the siding replacement.
Here's what the step-by-step siding replacement process looks like from start to finish.
We start with a visit to your home. One of our estimators inspects the current siding, looks for any underlying issues like damaged sheathing or moisture problems, and measures the exterior. We also look for issues that could affect the installation timeline, such as warped wall sections, rotted sheathing, poor drainage, damaged housewrap, or areas where pests may have entered behind the siding. Once our estimator has completed the thorough inspection and identified potential siding issues, they will sit down with you to discuss your home exterior goals (curb appeal, energy efficiency, low maintenance) and explain our recommendations.
Based on our discussion and measurements, you'll get a detailed, written estimate from our siding team.
If you need a full siding replacement, we’ll show you samples of the materials we carry and use our visualizer tool to show you what your house will look like. We help you compare siding options based on appearance, durability, maintenance, budget, and expected performance in our Nebraska weather.
Our siding experts help you pick the exact product, color, and trim details. Some homeowners know right away what they want. Others may take a few days to compare options, drive around neighborhoods for ideas, or talk it over with their spouse. Both timelines are fine with us, your satisfaction is our priority.
Our estimators prepare accurate measurements and project details to determine how much siding, trim, flashing, housewrap, fasteners, and accessory material your home will need.
Lead times depend on what you choose. We have our most commonly selected materials in stock in our local warehouse. But for specialty colors, or less common materials we will need to order the siding from the manufacturer.
Fiber cement from James Hardie can stretch to 2 weeks, especially during busy seasons, but we usually have most of these options in stock. Vinyl siding usually arrives within a week or two. LP SmartSide takes a bit longer. We give you a firm delivery date once the order is placed, and we schedule your install based on that.
Note: Once the contract is signed we will also handle any permits your city or county requires for the siding replacement.
The first day on site is focused on protecting your property. We cover landscaping, move patio furniture out of the way, and set up dumpsters. Then the crew starts removing the old siding.
This is where we sometimes find surprises. It can take longer if there are multiple siding layers, damaged materials, poor previous installation, stubborn fasteners, or hidden moisture damage. Rot, mold, deteriorated sheathing, damaged flashing, insect damage, or water intrusion may not be fully visible until the old siding comes off. When this happens, the issue should be handled before new siding is installed. Covering damage with new siding can shorten the life of the project and create more expensive repairs later.
A proper siding replacement project includes more than new siding panels. Your home needs a well-installed weather-resistant barrier and correct flashing details to help prevent water intrusion and damage
Housewrap helps reduce air movement and supports moisture protection behind the siding. Flashing helps direct water away from vulnerable areas, especially around windows, doors, roof intersections, decks, and trim details. These areas are common points for leaks when siding is installed poorly.
Once the home is prepared, the new siding installation begins. The installation process depends on the siding product, wall layout, trim package, and architectural details.
For vinyl siding, the crew typically installs starter strips, corners, trim channels, panels, and finishing pieces in a specific order. The siding must be fastened correctly so it can expand and contract with temperature changes.
For fiber cement or engineered siding, installation may include more cutting, fastening, alignment, sealing, and trim detailing. These materials require careful handling and precise installation to achieve a clean finished appearance.
Homes with many windows, doors, dormers, gables, bump-outs, porches, or decorative trim details usually take longer than simple rectangular homes. The extra time is spent cutting, fitting, flashing, and finishing details properly.
An 1,800 square foot ranch with vinyl siding might wrap up in two days. A two-story home with complex rooflines and fiber cement can take a full week.
A professional siding replacement project should end with a thorough cleanup. This includes collecting removed siding, packaging scraps, nails, fasteners, and jobsite materials. The crew should also check around the home for debris and make sure outdoor areas are left in good condition. We run magnets through the yard to pick up stray nails and then haul away all the debris,
After cleanup, we complete a final review of the work with you. This is the time to inspect the siding, trim, corners, edges, and overall finish. You see every side of the house, check the trim work, and point out anything that needs attention. We also answer any questions about maintenance, warranty details, and what to expect from your new siding.

A few things move the needle on how long your project takes:
Nebraska weather has opinions about when you can and can’t complete construction quickly. Here's how each season stacks up.
Spring (March through May). Good temperatures for installation, though spring storms and wet ground can cause short delays. Tevelde and Co.’s demand starts climbing in April, so book your inspection early and get on our schedule ahead of the line.
Summer (June through August). Peak season. Long daylight hours and dry conditions mean crews can work efficiently. The downside is that scheduling fills up fast, so plan ahead by at least a month.
Fall (September through November). Many contractors (including us) consider fall the sweet spot. Cooler temperatures are easier on crews, humidity drops, and the work moves quickly. Most materials install well down to about 40 degrees.
Winter (December through February). Vinyl becomes brittle below freezing and can crack during installation, so we typically pause vinyl work in deep cold. Steel and fiber cement siding can sometimes be installed in mild winter stretches, but Nebraska winters rarely cooperate. Most homeowners end up waiting until March.
We build a small buffer into every schedule because Nebraska weather doesn't ask permission. A surprise thunderstorm in June or a cold snap in October can push a crew off the job for a day. When that happens, we cover the exposed areas with house wrap so your home stays protected, and we pick up the next workable day.
Most weather delays add 1 to 3 days to a project. We keep you updated if anything shifts.
Having a crew at your home for a week changes the rhythm of your days. A few things worth knowing:
